STEPAPP & WASH UNITED PARTNERSHIP

Few people know that preventable diarrhoea caused by dirty water and lack of toilets kills more African children than HIV/AIDS, malaria and measles combined.

In Ghana, where still more than 20% of the population lack access to safe drinking water and almost 90% do not have access to improved sanitation, preventable diarrhoea is responsible for one in five child deaths.

StepApp Foundation and Stephen Appiah have now joined forces with WASH United to tackle this crisis in Ghana.

WASH United is a unique new Club that uses the power of football and the role model status of football super-stars like Stephen Appiah, Didier Drogba and Bastian Schweinsteiger to promote safe drinking Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) for all people in Ghana.

“Luckily, as a footballer, I no longer suffer these daily health risks, but I find it hard to accept that for millions of my countrymen and women gaining access to life’s most basic needs remains a struggle,” Stephen Appiah explains in an article published in 90 Minutes football magazine. “ …

'It’s obvious that you can’t improve the health of our youth without clean water and safe sanitation. However, to defeat the crisis in Ghana and the region, we need to act as a team. This is why I have joined WASH United.”
